A Klamath Falls couple, Jim and Phyllis Dahm, are Oregon's 2011 Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year. The Dahms were selected on Monday, November 21st at the Oregon Tree Farm System's (OTFS) 45th Annual Awards Luncheon held at the World Forestry Center in Portland.

Donna and Bryon Loucks of Centralia are The Washington Tree Farm Program’s “Washington Tree Farmers of the Year” for 2011. They are the 2010 Lewis County Tree Farmers of the Year. Their award was announced at the April 15th, 2011 Washington Farm Forestry Association Annual Meeting at the Heathman Lodge, Vancouver, WA.

Michael Payne, Benton County Small Woodland and SAF member, has authored and published a 130 page forest poetry book titled "Rings of a Forester". With this collection of poems and stories, Payne artistically describes emotions and numerous unique experiences arising from his 35 year career as a forester for Willamette Industries, and his current employer, Weyerhaeuser Company. "Rings of a Forester" is available at Grass Roots bookstore on 2nd st. in Corvallis for $15. It can also be ordered on line at LULU.com.

In 1941, William D. “Bill” Hagenstein was a young forester working for the West Coast Lumbermen’s Association (WCLA). One of his assignments was to survey the land for the association’s first forest seedling nursery. Bill found a property of 40.5 acres just eight miles north of Olympia Washington with excellent soil for growing trees and a maritime climate. And the land was located alongside the highway that would become Interstate 5.
